I joined a ZEST for BIRDS pelagic trip as a guide today. Unfortunately, the weather never really played along and, as soon as we left Simon's Town harbour, we entered thick mist which was to stay with us for the rest of the day (It finally lifted when we were virtually back home!). This did not make for great photographic opportunities as the light was very poor, but we still managed to see a number of good birds. There were no rarities found on the trip, but the highlight was certainly the huge numbers of storm petrels seen throughout the day (probably numbering into the 1000's).
