Rietvlei / Intaka Island

Friends of ours, Johann and Lizet Grobbelaar, had come down from Pretoria for the weekend in the hope of catching up with the Wilson's Phalarope that had been entertaining birders during the week. Unfortunately, the bird had moved off on Wednesday evening already and had not been seen since. So, we decided to check out a number of the wetlands in the vicinity of where it was last seen in the hope that we might relocate it, but this was not to be. We worked as much of Rietvlei Wetland Reserve as we could and then also check a few of the other coastal ponds, before heading off to Intaka Island Wetland Reserve. We also had Johann and Lizet's 10 week old daughter, Nadia, with us and we were hoping to make South African twitching history with the youngest long distance twitch ever, but our efforts were all in vain - maybe next time...
