Overberg

I joined Sion and Tiana Stanton and their daughters today for a trip into the Overberg area. Surprisingly, this has been my first trip into the area this year and I was specifically after 3 birds for my photographic yearlist, namely Cape Vulture, Agulhas Long-billed Lark and Knysna Woodpecker. We were fortunate in catching up with all of my "wants" as we work the farmland roads looking for the lark and the area around Potberg for the other two. Grey Rhebok was also added to the mammal yearlist. We also managed to find Southern Tchagra, another special for the area as well as Southern Grey-headed Sparrow attending a nest (an uncommon bird in the Western Cape) and a male Black Cuckoo-shrike (a Western Cape rarity). Unfortunately, the cuckoo-shrike did not really pose all that well for a photo.
