Through a Quantity Surveyor that I work with in the architectural business, we had been invited to attend a "roof wetting" party at his new home in Franschoek on Saturday. As the party was already starting in the early afternoon and we expected it to get slightly out of hand, we decided to book into some accommodation locally for the night as we had no idea what sort of state we would be in to drive home... Together with my partners in South Architects, Roland and Cheryl van Rosenveld, Margaret and I booked into the Basse Provence Guest House situated on a fruit farm in Franschoek. After a rather late night with way too much alcohol involved, we eventually crawled out of bed quite late and headed off for a great breakfast at the guest house. After bidding farewell to Roland and Cheryl, it was already mid morning, so Margaret and I decided to head off to Paarl Bird Sanctuary for a while. The visit produced most of the expected species with nothing terribly exciting to write home about. But, then again, when one eventually starts birding when the sun has already been up in the sky for hours, you can't really expect to get too much... |
