I had presented a wader identification course to the Cape Bird Club on Saturday and was due to lead a field outing to the park the following day. Margaret and I decided to head up to the park (about 80km from home) early in the morning to try and catch up with the Spotted Flycatcher that had been reported there earlier in the week as it would only be the second individual that I had ever seen in the park and would also give me my first opportunity to photograph one in the Western Cape. (This is just another one of those silly lists that I keep - a Western Cape photographic list). The day was successful in that we located the Spotted Flycatcher within minutes of arriving at the site. We managed to squeeze in a little more bush birding prior to the participants of the course arriving and then spent most of the rest of the day looking for waders. |
