Once again, we woke up to really terrible weather, but the day had already been arranged. Margaret and I would be meeting John and Greta Graham and Sion and Tiana Stanton at Cape Point for breakfast at the restaurant that sits on top of the cliff overlooking False Bay. We arrived in the reserve fairly early and headed down to Cape of Good Hope initially. In between the intermittent showers, I set my telescope up and looked out to sea. There was a huge movement of birds coming through (far more than yesterday!) comprising several thousand Sooty Shearwaters with good numbers of White-chinned Petrels and Cape Gannets in between. A frustrating moment was when I picked up a small black and white shearwater (almost certainly a Little) as it whizzed past, but I just could not get enough on the bird to absolutely clinch the id...

By 09h00, we were all in the restaurant enjoying the first of several cups of coffee to try and warm up and thereafter, a very "healthy" bacon and eggs breakfast which really hit the spot! Once the weather lifted and the bill was settled, we walked around the restaurant and car park area where the House Sparrows, Cape Buntings and Red-winged Starlings were ridiculously tame and, at many points, were coming far too close to even focus on! What made it even worse was that when you stepped back to try and create some distance between you and the bird, the bird would then just hop closer to you again. They were literally around our feet and we had to be quite careful not to actually step on any of them!

The remainder of the day was spent checking out a number of sites in the reserve with another "coffee stop" at the visitor centre a little later where a Common Caco (a type of frog) made us look like idiots as it called from the smallest of rain puddles right in front of us. No matter how hard we tried, we just could not find it and it was not like we had a huge pond to contend with...
