I joined Cliff Dorse and Suretha van Rooyen today for a visit to Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve near Robertson. The intention was to go and look for a small frog that occurs there called Karoo Caco Cacosternum karooicum. Unfortunately, we arrived there a little too late and it was already way too hot.  After a fairly long slog up into the kloof where these frogs occur, we found ourselves in temperatures of around 35 deg C and very little movement - definitely no frogs calling!! One bit of life that was certainly around was mosquitos and we were all severely attacked and bitten. After spending some time listening for these frogs without success, we eventually gave up and made our way back home. Of interest was that there were many Bush Karoo Rats scurrying around, but not once was I able to get a photo of one and we also had some frustrating moments with an Elephant shrew of sorts which kept disappearing into a rock pile before we could get a decent look at it to identify it. Just one of those days where nothing really went according to plan...
