I decided to pay a visit to the Dolphin Beach Pans near my house this morning to see if it perhaps held any surprises there. After all, this is the place that delivered my 900th bird in Southern Africa last year - Wilson's Phalarope. Since I was out and about, I also decided to atlas the pentad (3345_1825) that it falls into. Unfortunately, most of the pentad is covered with suburbia, so it is not the most bird rich place in the world, but there are the pans and also some rocky and sandy shorelines to check out. The morning delivered nothing terribly special and, although I got started pretty early, it was already very hot by the time I was finished. The best bird of the morning was a group of several White-backed Ducks at the pans.
