Margaret and I headed off to Paarl Bird Sanctuary this morning. With the weather predictions showing strong north-westerly winds and overcast conditions, we thought it might be a little better heading slightly further inland rather than somewhere on the Peninsula itself and there was also the opportunity to catch up with a few species for my challenge as well. Whilst there, the conditions varied from clear skies through to overcast conditions, so we never really totally escaped the poor weather, but at least there were some opportunities for photography.

Birdingwise, the highlights were a couple of White-faced Ducks. With the current influx of this species into our area, it was perhaps not that surprising to find them here as well, since we have been seeing them regularly at other sites on the Peninsula in recent weeks. Otherwise, most of the regular species were encountered, but it was good to see so much breeding action with lots of chicks of a number of different species around. I also managed to catch up with a few more common species for my challenge, so slowly, but surely, I am making a small dent in the list...
