Waking up early this morning with much anticipation, I was disappointed to find that the wind was still howling. Nevertheless, while exploring the farm yesterday, I had seen a number of sheets of corrugated iron lying around behind the main farm house, so I headed off there to go and turn them over to see what I could find under them. I quickly located a couple of Kasner's Dwarf Burrowing Skinks and numbers of Cape Skinks and Cape Legless Skinks, but unfortunately, not much else! We then did a bit of general birding around the farm, before leaving and heading to Laaiplek at the mouth of the Berg River. A Lesser Frigatebird had been seen here about 2 weeks previously (the news only got out about a week after the sighting much to our disgust!!), so my suggestion to Margaret to go and have lunch here was not totally honourable as I had ulterior motives! Needless to say, I spent the next couple of hours continuously glancing up into the sky in the hope that some Pterodactyl-like bird would be hanging effortlessly over my head, but it was not to be...

From here, we visited Flaminkvlei but were quite disappointed in the lack of birds (and anything else) there. Then it was off to Brittania Bay to visit a friend of ours and catch up on all the local west coast birding gossip. As these things go, there ended up being a LOT of gossip to catch up on so it was only in the late afternoon when we eventually returned to the farm again. A bit of birding around the vicinity of our cottage turned up nothing out of the ordinary and while we braaied in the evening, we were entertained by the calls of the local Barn Owls.
