Trevor was once again a guide on a ZEST for BIRDS pelagic trip today. Although the conditions were good with not much wind and a relatively flat sea, most of the first part of the day was spent under heavy cloud cover, so the light for photography was not great. Most of the usual species expected at this time of the year were present with some of the northern Skuas, particularly the Pomarine Skuas, already showing signs of moulting into breeding plumage. The best bird of the day, a Flesh-footed Shearwater, was only seen briefly and at a distance, but we were also lucky to find a cracking Blue Shark, a small pod of Dusky Dolphins and a rather friendly Sperm Whale which really added to the overall experience of the day.
